About the role
We are looking for a reliable, hard-working grounds maintenance operative to join our team as we grow our client base across south-west Essex. You will be carrying out regular maintenance visits to residential and commercial properties, working to a schedule and representing Larkshall Grounds on site each day.
This is a client-facing role. You will often be working alone or in a small team at a customer's property, so a professional, courteous manner is as important as your practical skills.
What you will be doing
- Carrying out fortnightly lawn cuts, edging, and grass stripping to a high standard
- Hedge and shrub trimming — keeping plants in shape and within agreed boundaries
- Weeding, mulching, and tidying beds and borders on each visit
- Seasonal work: leaf clearance in autumn, spring preparation, bedding planting
- Loading and removing green waste from each site in line with our Waste Carrier Licence
- Checking and maintaining equipment at the start and end of each working day
- Communicating professionally with clients — including WhatsApp notifications before arrival
- Feeding back any issues or additional work requirements to the business owner
What we are looking for
- Genuine interest in grounds maintenance and horticulture — you enjoy being outdoors and working with your hands
- A current, clean UK driving licence — you will be driving a company vehicle between sites
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, or a related outdoor role (desirable but not essential — full training given)
- Reliable and punctual — our clients depend on us showing up when scheduled
- Able to work independently and take pride in the quality of your work
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude when dealing with clients
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate, discussed at interview — paid weekly
- Company vehicle provided for travel between sites during working hours
- All equipment and PPE supplied — you do not need to provide your own tools
- Consistent, year-round work on annual maintenance contracts
- A close-knit team environment where your contribution is noticed
- Opportunity to grow with the business as we expand our client base
- Support to gain relevant qualifications (e.g. PA1/PA6, NPTC units) as the role develops
Hours & location
Monday to Friday, full-time hours. Based in Essex — routes cover Brentwood, Shenfield, Billericay, Chelmsford, and the surrounding area. You will be expected to travel to a meeting point at the start of each day to collect the vehicle and equipment.
How to apply
Send a brief message about yourself and your experience to info@larkshallgrounds.co.uk — no formal CV required at this stage. We will be in touch within a few days to arrange a conversation.
